Hello!

My name is Michael Dahl and this site contains my current activities and research interests for colleagues, friends, and interested academic and industrial parties.

Originally from Bismarck, North Dakota, I recently relocated to Washington State to pursue further studies. I enjoy snowboarding and wakeboarding and like the Northwest for its access to mountains and lakes; I try to get out as much as I can.

Above are pictures of my wife and me on a hike at the edge of the Olympic peninsula. She is finishing her residency at the University of Washington Internal Medicine Program.

I am currently working toward my Ph.D. in biomechanics at the University of Washington in Seattle. I graduated from a dual degree program with degrees in Physics from the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, WA and Biomedical Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis. I also completed my Masters in Mechanical Engineering (biomechanics) at the University of Washington.

I am now doing research pertaining to the biomechanics of the total ankle, specifically the Alvine Agility Total Ankle System (Depuy Inc). This research is currently conducted at the Applied Biomechanics Laboratory under Dr. Randal Ching, along with collaboration with Dr. Stephen Benirschke, Dr. Patricia Kramer, and Dr. Sigvard T Hansen of Harborview Medical Center. My Master's research consisted of determining the damping characteristics of the Bryan Cervical Disc System (Medtronic-Sofamor-Danek Inc.).

Currently seeking employment in the field of orthopaedic biomechanics, I would like to work on anything involving medical devices, internal prosthetics, bone constructs, surgical tools, and/or surgical techniques. I enjoy solving problems in a team setting and manual manipulation of equipment and devices. Feel free to browse my CV and research. Please email me with any questions and concerns or reference requests.
